Covering the Condemned | Undergraduate Honors Thesis

There is more than a century of evidence suggesting newspaper coverage influences death penalty policy. More recent scholarship established connections between certain frames and modes of coverage and public death penalty support. This study entailed analyzing a representative sample of 16 years of death penalty articles in four of North Carolina’s highest circulation newspapers to examine how the moratorium impacted coverage.

In Fall 2017, seniors Kyle Werner '18, Olivia Buffington '18, Sloan Taylor '18 and Lauren Miller '18 produced a crisis management plan to help prepare their client, Uber, for future crises related to work culture, leadership and organizational security.

Cuba's New Wave

During UNC's 2017 spring break, 23 students traveled to Havana, Cuba, to create a multimedia documentary website — Cuba's New Wave — that explores the unique youth culture in Cuba. The trip was led by Professor Pat Davison and adjunct instructor Tamara Rice.

Danny Green: Beyond the Court

Seniors Catie Armstrong '18, Madi Coffing '18, Abby Greene '18, Kristen Luft '18, Elise Pericles '18 and Kyle Werner '18 created a plan in Teaching Assistant Professor Livis Freeman's "MEJO 634: Public Relations Campaigns" course to enhance the personal brand of Danny Green — a UNC alumnus and NBA player for the Toronto Raptors — and to promote his basketball skills clinics here in Chapel Hill.
