Other Program Costs
Orientation and summer residency fee
Students pay a one-time fee of $500 to support programming for two mandatory on-campus sessions: a two-day orientation held in August prior to the start of the program and a weeklong summer residency in May between the first and second years in the program. The non-refundable fee will be billed directly by the university and must be paid before enrolling for the first semester. Lunch is provided during on-campus sessions, but students are responsible for other related costs, such as transportation and lodging.
Books, software and other course supplies
Students should budget $150 per course for books, software, subscriptions or other purchases required by the instructor.
Computers and internet connection
Students are expected to have consistent access to a computer with an up-to-date Mac or PC operating system and that meets the system requirements for Adobe Illustrator. A home broadband Internet connection is required.
Employer Support
Many employers offer tuition assistance or reimbursement for employees. Check with your employer's office of human resources.
Financial Aid and Installment Payment Plan
Federal financial aid is available for degree-seeking students who are enrolled a minimum of 4.5 hours per semester and who show financial need. The aid is typically limited to federal loans. No scholarships, grants, assistantships or fellowships are currently available through the UNC School of Media and Journalism.
For more information, contact the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid.
An installment payment plan is available.
Financial aid, tuition payment plans and all other financial arrangements are made through the Office of the University Cashier or the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. The School of Media and Journalism does not handle any payment issues.
